Why can't I self-register for classes?

Because SPC is committed to your academic success, we want you to visit with one of our counselors who can help you determine your classes for next semester.

You will be blocked from registering for classes until you complete the following requirements:

  • Print out and complete the Probation Exercise.  If you are unable to print a copy, please call 806-894-9611, ext. 2961, to have one mailed to you.
  • Contact one of the Counseling Centers or the Plainview Center to schedule a visit with one of our counselors.

Levelland Counseling Center: 806-894-9611, ext. 2366
Reese Counseling Center: 806-894-9611, ext. 4606
Plainview Center: 806-269-9611, ext. 4302

You must visit in person with a counselor in order to get enrolled for the next semester.

  • Take the Probation Exercise with you when you visit with the counselor.
  • Complete the Academic Success Plan with the counselor, and include one of the following classes on your schedule:

HUDV 1100, Learning Frameworks
HUDV 1200, Career and Self-Evaluation
HUDV 1300, College Success

  • Once you have your contract signed, your counselor will release the registration block, and you may enroll in your classes.

What is the HUDV class requirement?

There are many reasons why students go on academic probation, and nearly all of them can be connected to lack of preparation and unclear career goals. SPC knows that students who take one of these classes do better in the rest of their classes, and so are more successful in completing their college goals. If you have already successfully completed one of these classes (with a C grade or better), you will not be required to enroll in an HUDV class. You and your counselor will discuss what options are best for you.

Here are the course descriptions:

HUDV 1100. AN INTRODUCTION TO LEARNING FRAMEWORKS.(1:1:0)

This is a study of the: 1) research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation,2) factors that impact learning, and 3) application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition and motivation will serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college-level student academic strategies. This course cannot be taken for credit in conjunction with HUDV 1300.

HUDV 1200. CAREER AND SELF EVALUATION. (2:2:0)

This course is designed to teach students the ongoing process of decision-making as it relates to career, life and educational planning. Students identify the unique aspects of interests, skills, needs, and values. They investigate possible work environments and develop a plan for personal satisfaction. Job search and survival skills are also considered.

HUDV 1300. SELF-MANAGEMENT FOR SUCCESS IN A CHANGING WORLD. (3:3:0)

Academic Strategies

(Based on Learning Frameworks) A study of the 1.) research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation, 2.) factors that impact learning, and 3.) application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction to college-level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g., learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Student developing these skills should be able

to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned. This course is recommended for nontraditionalstudents returning to college after academic suspension or by placement by the Admissions Committee. (Cross-listed as EDUC 1300 and PSYC 1300, ACGM)
