Student Activities/Center

South Plains College makes a special effort to encourage a friendly and democratic atmosphere among all students, faculty, staff and administration. Student activities are planned to enhance the academic, social, cultural and spiritual interests of the student body. The college offers a variety of co-curricular experiences which assist the student in developing a rich concept of life's potential. A varied program of activities open to all members of the student body is implemented through the coordinated programs of a number of organizations, each of which offers opportunities for the student to explore personal interests. Members of the Student Services staff assist in administering these activities.

Student Government- The Student Senate at South Plains College acts as the governing agency of the Student Association for the purpose of advising and recommending the formulation of policy pertaining to the student life of the college. It is also the purpose of the Student Senate to assist and advise in the planning and administration of the activity program and in promoting student participation, morale and welfare of the college campus. An executive branch consisting of the Student Association President and a cabinet of officers and a legislative body consisting of the Student Senate comprise the student government. Offices in Student Government are both elective and appointive.

Music Activities- South Plains College offers many opportunities for students to further musical and cultural interests through attendance at concerts and recitals and through participation in the various musical groups directed by the Fine Arts Department and Creative Arts Department. Faculty, student and guest soloists and ensembles perform throughout the year.

Welcome Back Week brings all SPC students and faculty to a free game night and banana split party in the SPC game room and Student Center area. Other events during this week include pool and table tennis tournaments. The week ends with a Theme Night and Dance that is held in the Sundown Room of the Student Center.

All organizations are urged to participate in this campus activity. Clubs can set up booths (and generate some funds) by doing anything from selling refreshments to putting on a variety show. A Costume Ball allows you to dress up as your favorite Halloween character.

Every year, SPC goes all-out to decorate the giant tree near the front of the campus. The turning on of the lights, is accompanied by singing, celebration, and refreshments. There is even a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This pageant reveals the most talented coed at South Plains College. Contestants are nominated by campus clubs and organizations and are judged on personal presentation, poise, and knowledge of current events.

SPC strives to put together a fun day for current students and alumni, complete with kings, queens, pep rallies, basketball games, and dances.

Get ready for this one! It's everything you could hope for. It includes every crazy game imaginable, a dance, wacky Olympics, talent show, Mr. Caprock Pageant and much more. Show off your stuff during the annual SPC Talent Show hosted by the Student Activities Office. Sing, play an instrument, or have some good one-liners and compete with other students for prize money.

Each spring outstanding students are recognized by the various departments and programs for academic achievement and by various campus clubs for participation and leadership. These students, along with their parents and faculty, are invited to the honors ceremony and reception in Texan Dome.

The Student Center is the focal point for student activities on the Levelland campus. The center contains the Student Government Offices, conference and meeting rooms, game room and recreational facilities, a snack bar and the SPC Bookstore. The offices of the Director of Student Activities and the Student Health Coordinator are located in the Student Center. The Student Activities Office maintains a lost and found service for students, faculty and staff. The Campus Police Department and Texan Hall Cafeteria are located in the Student Center.

The game room in the Student Center provides recreation for students in the form of pool, billiards, ping pong, foosball, and a video arcade. Students who possess a current SPC ID card are allowed to check out game room equipment. Your ID card will be returned after use and condition of equipment has been checked. Students are responsible for damages to facilities and equipment. Food and tobacco are prohibited in the game room.
