Administrative Assistant to Nursing Department - Plainview

SUMMARY

To provide assistance to the Director of Vocational Nursing so that the office can operate at optimum efficiency. Initiate and follow through on projects within the department as assigned. To assist prospective students and interested persons with general information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide secretarial support for the Director of Vocational Nursing and nursing faculty.

Be knowledgeable of FERPA regulations and maintain confidentiality of all college related information.

Compose, type, and edit correspondence.

Maintain files of all Vocational Nursing Program forms, syllabi, and as outlined by the Texas Board of Nursing files of current students and past graduates.

Assist in registration, preregistration, commencement, nursing pinning ceremony, and other associated activities.

Assist the Director in preparation of Application of Graduate Forms required by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Provide the public with general information in a professional manner.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise computer lab assistant and any assigned work study student.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school of business or related area is preferred. Two years work experience and/or training, previous experience in higher education is also preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures, directives, and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to write routine job-related correspondence as well as prepare reports on the operations of the office.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Able to type 45 words per minute.
