Financial Aid/VA Advisor-Reese Center
The primary function of this position is to assist veteran students in understanding and obtaining various types of financial benefits for their education that they are eligible for. This position is also responsible for assisting all students understand obtain financial aid for education. This position will be located at the Reese campus of South Plains College in Lubbock, TX.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following:
Coordinate with Department of Veterans Affairs and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to assist Veterans and their eligible dependents in the application process for federal and state benefits. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on federal and state policies and procedures as they relate to the college and its students. Prepare information for federal and state audits, and other reports as requested by either entity. Process applications for state exemptions and file necessary paperwork with Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure proper payment to the college and its students.
Advisor for Financial Aid
1. Coordinate financial aid activities with the Financial Aid Manager.
2. Provide students with information on all types of Federal, State and local financial assistance.
3. Assist with completing files and awarding financial aid.
4. Assist with the registration process, including pre-registration and late registration.
5. Assist students at counter and by phone.
6. Assist with High School Night orientations and presentations.
7. Other duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Manager.
Supervise work-study students.

High School graduate or equivalent. Associate Degree preferred. Previous experience in higher education is desirable.
Personal computer skills including knowledge of current Microsoft Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suites. Must have the ability to learn new software as needed. Word processing and database management skills a necessity.
Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures pertaining to personnel, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, students and general public. Ability to write routine job-related correspondence.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts consistent with budget preparation. Ability to read and comprehend policies and procedures directives and correspondence pertaining to financial aid programs. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small groups situations. Ability to write routine job-related correspondence as well as prepare reports on the operations of the office.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
