Instructor in English
Conducts college courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teaches English within prescribed curriculum—possible courses consisting of Remedial, Composition and Rhetoric, and Sophomore Literature.
May teach face to face, online or ITV, daytime or evening, on any or all of the SouthPlainsCollege centers.
Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
Compiles bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
Stimulates class discussions.
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, essays, and research papers.
Performs related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula, and may act as adviser to student organizations.
May serve on faculty or standing college committee(s).
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's Degree in English (with 18 graduate hours in the teaching area) required. Creative Writing, CAI, Internet, and/or ITV experience is desirable.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general collegiate periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, professional correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, administration, staff, and the general public.
Consistent with instructional area.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
