Network Technician

SUMMARY

Provides network and computer support to the Levelland Campus by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Evaluates and recommends computer hardware and software to Network Technology Specialist

Sets up and maintains microcomputer systems and peripherals

Solves software and hardware problems and malfunctions

Assists in the purchasing, licensing, customizing, configuring, and troubleshooting of new computer products and of

upgrading older equipment and software.

Assists Network Technology Specialist on user/workstation configuration using Novell and/or Windows NT saver. Troubleshoots and maintains networked workstations and printers on Novell and/or Windows NT networks. Maintains computer records and computer work-orders for reporting and budget proposals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. S,) in CIS or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred.

Two years experience in the selection, set up, networking, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer equipment and software, preferably within an educational setting.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SNILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in allunits of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs,

REASONING ABILILTY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limitedstandardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
