Instructor in Speech
Conducts college courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned and/or included in the Faculty Handbook.
- Teaches speech within prescribed curriculum – possible courses in the areas of Introduction to Speech (1311), Public Speaking (1315) and/or Business and Professional Speech (1321).
- May teach face to face, online or ITV, daytime or evening, on any or all of the South Plains College satellite centers.
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
- Stimulates class discussions.
- Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, assignments, major projects and speeches.
- Conducts a minimum of 10 office hours per week.
- Performs related duties such as advising students on academic and vocational curricula, and acting as adviser to student organizations.
- Serves on faculty committees.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M. A.) with 18 graduate hours in the teaching area.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Consistent with instructional area.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
