AA. College District Legal Status and History (BP)

The Hockley County Junior College District was established April 2, 1957 by the vote of the electorate of Hockley County, Texas in an election called under the conditions set forth in Section 17 and 17(a) of Chapter 290, Acts of the Forty-First Legislature of the State of Texas. This statement is from the minutes of the Hockley County Commissioners Court calling for the qualified voters of Hockley County to consider two propositions for the establishment of a County Junior College District and the election of a Board of Trustees, March 11, 1957. The College District annexed the Cochran County portion of the Whiteface Independent School District following voter approval of an annexation election duly called by the Cochran County Commissioners Court and held March 22, 1958.
