BMA. Vice President of Academic Affairs
Develops and carries out academic policies and programs for South Plains College as directed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Prepare an annual calendar of events and due dates for the division.
Assist with all registrations.
Monitor all class enrollments, check with chairpersons concerning classes with less than ten (10) enrolled, and make recommendation to cancel or continue with the class.
Review enrollments shifts from fall to fall and spring to spring.
Evaluate "Teaching Schedules", as submitted by the chairpersons, and recommend overloads. Every effort should be made to stay within institutional guidelines.
Serve as chairperson for the Division of Arts and Sciences Departmental Chairperson Council.
Maintain an up-to-date (not more than three years old) syllabi file on all academic transfer courses.
Review chairperson evaluations by faculty and also personally evaluate chairpersons.
Hold conferences with chairpersons regarding their faculty evaluations.
Participate in all new faculty orientation sessions and the Community College Course as requested.
Provide leadership for curriculum/program development and revision.
Serve on the Instructional Deans Council, Administrative Council, Academic Council, Admissions Committee (ex-officio), Communicable Diseases Committee (ex-officio), Hazard Communication Committee.
Evaluate the need for additional faculty positions. Serve on search committee for faculty being recruited for the Division.
Work with departmental chairpersons regarding part-time faculty, and maintain appropriate records.
Recommend probationary faculty and tenured faculty for contract renewal (date determined by Vice President for Academic Affairs).
Receive and appropriately recommend all faculty rank promotions and tenure.
Have responsibility for all budget preparation for the division, dean's office, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chorus and Jazz Singers.
Direct the management of the divisional budget.
Investigate and help implement innovative ways for professional faculty development.
Submit requests for curriculum changes for Arts and Sciences to the Coordinating Board.
Verify all Arts and Sciences approved courses from the Coordinating Board master list.Assist in development and revision of the college catalog, class schedules, instructional brochures, and the college policies and procedures manual.
