College-Wide General Scholarships

South Plains College administers a number of scholarship programs that are not limited to a specific major field of study. These scholarships are open to all eligible students. Amounts for each award are dependent upon available funds.

Achieve the Dream Scholarship

This program is made available through the generosity of alumni and friends of the college. It is open to new or returning students. To be eligible, students must enroll full-time and have a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Awards are made based on academic merit, as well as, financial need.

To apply, students must submit a scholarship application to the Scholarship Office by the March 1 deadline date.

Terry Albus Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available for a freshman or sophomore student at SPC who exhibits financial need. While the scholarship is not designated to a major area, first preference is given to students majoring in a science field. The scholarship award varies according to available funds.

To be eligible, incoming freshmen must graduate in the upper 50 percent of their high school class and enroll as a full-time student at SPC. Sophomore students must have a minimum 2.75 grade point average. In order to maintain the scholarship, students must remain enrolled in at least 12 hours and maintain a minimum 2.75 grade point average.

To apply, students must submit a completed scholarship application to the Scholarship Office.

The scholarship was established by the Albus Family of Pep in memory of the late Terry Albus, a graduate of SPC at the time of his death.

John M. and Ruby Jo Bayne Memorial Scholarship

The John M. Bayne and Ruby Jo Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to one full-time student. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

To be eligible, freshman or sophomore students must have graduated in the top 50 percent of their high school class and must maintain a 2.75 grade point average while attending college.

To apply, students should request and complete a scholarship application.

The scholarship was established by Ruby Popejoy Bayne in honor of her husband, John M. Bayne, who was a veteran of World War II and a retired professor of psychology and sociology at Howard College and Panola College. He was a graduate of Butler University and a staunch supporter of the mission of community colleges.

Carroll and Marcie Bowen Scholarship

The Carroll and Marcie Bowen Scholarship is awarded to a full-time freshman or sophomore student who exhibits financial need and who majors in any field of college study. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

In order to be eligible, applicants must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. Recipients of this scholarship are required to maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

This scholarship honors Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Bowen who are business, civic and church leaders in the Levelland community. In addition, they are committed to the progress and development of South Plains College and the educational and career pursuits of its students.

P.O. Dominguez Memorial Scholarship

The P.O. Dominguez Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving full-time student majoring in any field of college study. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

In order to be eligible, freshman applicants must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. Sophomore applicants must have maintained a 2.50 grade point average in their college studies. Recipients must remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours and maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average while receiving the award.

The scholarship was established by the children of P.O. Dominguez, all of whom are former SPC students. Mr. Dominguez was an employee of South Plains College for 20 years.

Farmers Co-op Elevator Association

This scholarship is made available by the directors of the Farmers Co-op Elevator Association in Levelland, Texas. Dependents of Co-op members are eligible to apply for the scholarship. To apply, submit a completed scholarship application and indicate on the application that a parent is a member of the Co-op.

John V. and Auvena Morton Memorial Scholarship

The John V. and Auvena Morton Scholarship is awarded yearly to students who display leadership potential and who demonstrate self-discipline and high moral values. Recipients are generally chosen from those students who do not receive assistance from other scholarship programs at SPC.

In order to continue to receive the scholarship after the first semester, recipients must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a minimum cummulative grade point average of 3.00 in the preceding semester.

The scholarship funds were made possible by Mr. and Mrs. John V. Morton of Levelland, longtime supporters of community college education. Mr. Morton served as a member of the SPC Board of Regents from 1957 to 1978.

Paul and Verna Musslewhite Scholarship

The Paul and Verna Musslewhite Scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving full-time student majoring in any field of college study. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

As a tribute to their parents, the daughters of Paul and Verna Musslewhite established this program to reward students who graduate in the top 50 percent of their high school class and maintain a 2.50 grade point average while attending college.

The late Mr. Musslewhite was a respected leader in the Hockley County area and a loyal supporter of South Plains College. He died in October, 1993. Mrs. Musslewhite resides in Levelland and continues to remain active in college and community activities.

To be eligible to receive this scholarship, students must be members of the Kappa Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at SPC.

To be eligible to receive this scholarship, students must be members of the Kappa Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at SPC.

Rusty Price Memorial Scholarship

The Rusty Price Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a full-time freshman or sophomore student majoring in any field of college study. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

To be eligible for this award, freshman applicants must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. Sophomore applicants must hold a minimum 2.50 grade point average. Recipients must remain enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours and maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average while receiving the scholarship.

This scholarship was established by Billy, Nancy and Dusty Price in memory of their son and brother, Rusty Price. Members of the Price family are business and civic leaders in Levelland and are concerned with helping deserving students achieve educational and career goals. Nancy Price died in 1994 in an automobile mishap.

C.M. and Cora Sanders Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic and leadership potential. The scholarship was established by the late Mrs. C.M. (Cora) Sanders, a longtime supporter of the college, in honor of her husband who served as a member of South Plains College Board of Regents from 1957 to 1967.

Applicants must graduate in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. ACT or SAT scores are required for consideration. In order to continue to receive the scholarship after the first semester, recipients must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 in the preceding semester.

In order to be considered, students must submit a Scholarship Application by the March 1 deadline.

Kelvin and Lissa Sharp Presidential Scholarship

John L. and Vergie Belle Smallwood Scholarship

These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen students who are graduates of high schools within the South Plains College District are eligible for consideration. The scholarships are made available through the generosity of John L. and Vergie Belle Smallwood who were outstanding leaders in their church and community and were special friends of education. Although the Smallwoods had no children, they were committed to the value of an education and assisted students who wished to attend college. Their belief in the value of educating young people is continued through their generous bequest to South Plains College.

Applicants must graduate in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. ACT or SAT scores are required for consideration. In order to continue to receive the scholarship after the first semester, recipients must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 in the preceding semester.

The Smallwood Scholars program is funded from proceeds of the Smallwood Estate Trust  which is administered by Citizens Bank in Levelland.

This scholarship is available for the dependents of members of United Cotton Growers Co-op Association. To apply, submit a scholarship application and indicate that a parent is a co-op member.

United Supermarkets Scholarship

Alvin and Mary K. Walker Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship program is available to incoming freshmen students at SPC. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

To be eligible, freshman applicants must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. In order to retain the scholarship, recipients must maintain a minimum 2.00 grade point average and remain enrolled in 12 or more semester hours. To apply, students must request and complete a scholarship application form.

This scholarship program was established by the friends and family of the late Alvin and Mary K. Walker. Both were graduates of Pep High School and attended South Plains College. Mr. Walker worked many years for K-Bar Texas Electric before his death in 1990. Mrs. Walker served as Hockley County Clerk until her death in 2003.

William L. and Nina Rose Walker Memorial Scholarship

The William L. and Nina Rose Walker Scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student who resides in Hockley County and who majors in any field of college study. Scholarship amount varies according to available funds.

To be eligible, applicants must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class. Recipients of the scholarship must maintain a minimum 2.50 grade point average and must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours.

This scholarship was established by the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Walker, who are respected leaders in their church and community, as well as being longtime supporters of community college education. Mr. Walker served as administrative dean at South Plains College from 1961 until his retirement in 1981.

Ray and Donna West Bailey County Scholarship

To be eligible, students must be residents of Bailey County, Texas.

Ray and Donna West Scholarship for American Heroes

To be eligible, students must be honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Misti Dawn and Tony Lynn Williams Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship program is made available to an incoming freshman who demonstrates leadership and academic potential. Preference is given to those who have not decided on a particular major field of study. The scholarship award varies according to available funds.

To be eligible, applicants must graduate in the upper 50 percent of their high school class and enroll in a minimum of 12 semester hours of college courses. To retain the scholarship, recipients must maintain a 2.50 grade point average while receiving the scholarship.

The scholarship fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Williams, in honor of their daughter and son who were students at SPC at the time of their deaths.

Vickie Wilks Wisian Scholarship

To be eligible, students must be first generation college students with a financial need.
