Dual Credit

Getting the most out of an educational experience is a top priority for students, teachers and parents. South Plains College recognizes the importance of allowing highly motivated students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.

The Dual Credit Program at South Plains College allows selected students to enroll in college-level courses and earn college credit while a junior or senior in high school. In certain cases, these college credit courses can be applied toward the student's high school credit requirements for graduation.

DUAL CREDIT refers to the granting of high school graduation credit for college courses taken at South Plains College. The policies of the local independent school district govern the granting of such credit.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT refers to a cooperative agreement between South Plains College and the local independent school district. Students participating in concurrent enrollment classes are enrolled in a course which satisfies both high school and college-level requirements. These courses are generally offered at the high school campus.

Eligible Courses

South Plains College has identified a number of courses which may be taken for dual credit through the early admissions program. Most students take courses commonly required for any bachelor's degree program at Texas universities. Academic credit received at South Plains College is fully transferable to Texas public universities. Enrollment in Dual Credit Courses

Students wishing to participate should talk with their parents and high school counselor before enrolling. Then, the student must obtain a Dual Credit and Early Admission Application from the Office of Admissions and Records at SPC and have the form signed by a parent and their high school principal. Students will need to submit an ApplyTexas Application for Admission, the Dual Credit and Early Admission Application, a current high school transcript, and current test scores indicating TSI compliance to the Admissions and Records Office at SPC.  Click here for Dual Credit Forms for Enrollment.

For the Fall 2012 Semester students who have met the TSI requirements through their latest TAKS testing may utilize those scores in satisfying the dual credit testing requirements.  Those students who did not meet TSI standards will still need to satisfy those requirements through ACCUPLACER, ACT, or SAT scores.  

The TAKS requirements on the Exit level testing is a 2200 in ELA with a 3 on the writing sample and a 2200 on the math section.  Those same scores may be used by juniors taking courses based on their sophomore TAKS testing.  The ACT scores will be a Composite of 23 with at least a score of 19 on the English and a 19 on the Math.  The SAT scores will be a Composite of 1070 with at least a 500 on the English and a 500 on the Math.
