Surgical Technology FAQ
HOW DO I GET INTO THE PROGRAM?
Like all of the other Health Occupations programs you will need to apply to the program. The application and requirements can be found by clicking on the Admissions button on the Surgical Technology Program Webpage.
HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?
The Certificate of Proficiency is one or two semesters of prerequisite courses, followed by the 12 month Surgical Technology Program
The Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology is one year of core coursework and prerequisite courses, followed by the 12 month Surgical Technology Program.
IF I AM TSI EXEMPT, DO I STILL NEED TO TAKE THE ACCUPLACER?
Yes, all applicants regardless of their TSI waiver or exemption, must take the reading section of the Accuplacer exam. This test is utilized as an entrance test for the program.
IS THE CERTIFICATION APPLICABLE IN OTHER STATES?
Yes, the Certified Surgical Technologist is able to gain employment in any state under this credential.
DO I NEED TO SEND MY SHOT RECORDS, PHYSICAL, AND CPR CERTIFICATION WITH MY APPLICATION?
No, these records are not required of applicants. Students who are accepted to the program will need to submit these records by the end of the second week of the program.
I HAVE A FELONY OR MISDEMEANOR CHARGE ON MY RECORD, WILL MY APPLICATION STILL BE CONSIDERED?
Please refer to the Admissions Information Packet for information concerning background checks. Applicants with any felony charges within the last 10 years must consult with the program director. Applicants with drug related felonies will not be considered.
WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM?
Applicants will be notified by mail in May as to whether they have been accepted, or placed on the alternate list. Those who are not accepted will also be notified.
