Programs of Study
The Automotive Collision Repair program is designed to prepare qualified graduates for entry-level employment in the collision repair industry. The program provides students with skills necessary for employment as an automotive body/frame and refinishing technician. Students successfully completing the curriculum described below will meet all requirements for the Associate of Applied Science degree.
Body and Frame skills consists of vehicle structural design, measuring systems, manufacturer specifications, vehicle control points, build tolerance, metallurgy, steering and suspension, automotive electrical service and repair, writing thorough and accurate damage reports. Refinishing skills consists of surface preparation, refinish materials, compressed air equipment maintenance and repair, HVLP refinishing equipment maintenance, repair and gun adjustments, color and texture matching through manufacturer variance program, refinish and blend techniques, tinting colors, polishing, compounding, masking for spot, panel and overall refinishing, laying out graphics, pin-striping and basic air brush techniques.
Students are required to participate in a capstone experience the final semester, which consists of a comprehensive lab project and comprehensive written exam.
TSI waived Certificate of Proficiency options are also provided in program curricula.
Program advisor is Robert Hotaling, program coordinator and instructor in automotive collision repair.
