Q. What is the daily class schedule for the Welding Technology Program at SPC?
A. Full time Welding Technology students attend classes Monday through Friday on the following schedule.
8:00 am 9:40 am – Class
9:40 am 10:00 – Break
10:00 am – 11:30 am – Class
11:30 am – 12:30 pm – Lunch
12:30 pm – 2:10 pm – Class
2:10 pm – Class dismissed
Q. How long does it take to complete the program?
A. It takes two semesters to complete the Basic Certificate and two semesters to complete the Advanced Certificate. The Associate Degree can be completed in four semesters. Each semester is sixteen weeks long. The Fall semester begins in August and ends in December, and the Spring semester begins in January and ends in May.
Q. Can I take Welding classes in the summer?
A. The Welding Technology Program does not offer classes in the summer at this time.
Q. Does South Plains College have a Job Placement Service?
Q. How much time will I spend in the classroom and in the lab?
A. Welding Technology students spend approximately 20% of their time in the class room and 80% in the lab.
Q. Will I be a “certified welder” when I graduate from South Plains College?
A. No, but you will be prepared to take qualification tests that are required by most employers. The majority of welders in the industry are “qualified” not “certified”. If you choose to become certified, we can direct you to an independent test laboratory that will perform the test for you for a fee. Certification is not required for most welding jobs.
