    SPC Brass Ensemble, Choir Concert set for Dec. 9

     

    LEVELLAND – The South Plains College Brass Ensemble and Choir Christmas Concert is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Christ United Methodist Church, 1704 College Avenue. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

    The Brass Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Bruce Keeling, chairperson of the Fine Arts Department and professor of Music. The Concert Choir is conducted by Jon Johnson, professor of Music.

    The SPC Brass will perform Camp Kirkland’s arrangements of  “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “Good Christian Men Rejoice” and “We Three Kings” with members of Al Gardner’s, percussion studio. Gardner is professor of percussion.

    Other selections are “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen,” arranged Jerry Fielding; “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” arranged by Fielding; and “Sonata Piano Forte” by Giovanni Gabrieli. 

    The SPC Choir will perform “Once in Royal David’s City,” arranged by J. S. Johnson; “Who Is He In Yonder Stall?,” with text by Benjamine Hanby and music by Robert Young; “The Blessed Song of God” by R. Vaughn Williams; “Christmas Day” by Gustav Holst; “My Dancing Day,” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw; “Bright, Bright The Holy Berries” by Alfred Burt; and “Adoration of the Wise Men,” arranged by Crawford R. Thoburn.

    The grand finale will include the SPC Choir, Brass Ensemble, organist Ian Aipperspach, timpanist Gardner and the audience on a joyful setting of G. F. Handel’s “Joy to the World.”

    A reception will follow the concert in the fellowship hall.
